The Mission of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is “a network of friends, inspired by Gospel values, growing in holiness and building a more just world through personal relationships with and service to people in need.”
The Back2Work program provides customized training, continuing education, community resources, connectivity, and mentoring to low-income unemployed or underemployed individuals, helping them become self-sufficient along the way.
Focusing on systemic change in long-term recovery through person-to-person support services, the Disaster Services Corporation (DSC) helps people in situational poverty brought about by natural and man-made disasters get their lives back in order.
- Food Pantries
Many families cannot consistently put food on the table. Serving neighbors in need in communities across the United States, our food pantries provide both fresh and non-perishable goods in neighborhoods impacted by poverty.
Since its beginnings in 2008, the annual Friends of the Poor® Walk/Run program has provided local Conferences and Councils with funds to help support special works projects and assist local neighbors in need.
- Home Visits
During Home Visits, Vincentians bring hope and financial resources to neighbors in need through assistance with rent, food, clothing, and other emergency needs. Along the way, we develop friendships with those in need, listening and praying together.
The IMMERSION™ program assists incarcerated individuals returning to society with the resources and skills needed to succeed upon return to their community, reducing recidivism in the process.
Committed to sharing financial resources, exchanging prayers, and creating cross-cultural friendships, the International Twinning program helps connect U.S. Conferences and Councils with those in countries lacking the means to conduct local works of charity.
Examining the root causes of poverty, Vincentians work directly with neighbors in need to explore permanent life changes. In Systemic Change, we look at the family and outside systems that influence the root causes of a family’s economic and societal status.
Providing meaningful employment and volunteer opportunities, our thrift stores are a significant driver of the Society’s mission and effectiveness. Profits from our stores contribute millions of dollars for Councils and Conferences to use in their communities.
Voice of the Poor is the advocacy arm of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, identifying issues that are critical to those living in poverty and need, and bringing attention to the issue to reduce or eliminate poverty.
Located in communities across the country, our 125 Youth and Young Adult SVdP Conferences provide opportunities for service and social connection to the young people who are the future of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
